With one game remaining in the season against Defending PCLL Champions, SUNY-BUffalo, the Huskies control their own destiny for gaining a first round bye in the PCLL playoffs. At 4-1 , NU trailes only UCONN, who holds a perfect 4-0 league record. While plenty of scenarios could play out across the volatile PCLL over the next week, one thing is for sure: Northeastern will return to the post season to make a run at a long overdue PCLL title.
The team finds themselves with at 10-4 (4-1 PCLL) record after a dramatic 8-7 win at home over UNH. The star performer of the game was Clayton Eck (2G, 1A), who recorded the game winner with only seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Huskies picked up their first PCLL loss last Friday in a Husky vs. Husky battle against UConn. Turnovers killed the Dawgs, who could never come back from an early 3 goal deficit.
Northeastern remains at #18 this week and looks to improve upon that ranking after facing cross town rival Boston University on Thursday at 8:00 at BU’s Nickerson Field.
The following night is a Top-20 match up between the #18 NU and #16 Pittsburgh. Both teams are fighting for a bid to nationals. Pitt has eked out two overtime wins in the past two years in the young rivalry. Join us at Parson’s Field at 7:00.
The Huskies dealt the Eagles their first regular season PCLL loss since the 2008 season. The win bumped NU up from #21 to #17 in the Nike/MLCA poll. See the full national poll here.
The Huskies’ next test comes against Rhode Island this Saturday at 6pm at Parson’s Field. The Rams are also undefeated in PCLL play, coming of a 10-8 victory over Boston University this past weekend. Although it is still early in the season, the winner of the contest will take a strong 2-0 lead in the conference.
